2. Acoustic Neuroma

This is a very rare disease where a non-cancerous tumour grows directly in the nerve that’s responsible for hearing and balance. Symptoms include numbness or tingling sensation on the face, hearing loss, loss of balance or dizziness, headaches and a feeling of fullness in the ear.

3. Measles

Measles is a childhood illness which can also infect adults. The primary cause is the rubella virus. Tiny pinkish rash on the skin is the common symptom, whilst other symptoms may appear as well; such as fever, swollen lymph nodes, aching joints and conjunctivitis. Now, this disease does not always lead to hearing loss. But it causes genetic disorders to newborn babies whose mother has measles during pregnancy.

4. Paget's Disease

Paget’s disease is described as the abnormal growth of weak bones after an increase in bone resorption. Patients will notice deformities and easy bone fractures, which sometimes is also associated with pain and stiff joints. Keeping the disease out of control may cause hearing loss as a side effect because the hair cells inside the ears may become damaged and the auditory nerve may stretch.

5. Otosclerosis

Is described as the abnormal growth of the bones in the ears. It has a gradual onset and progression of hearing loss. Patients may experience dizziness, tinnitus, and gradual deafness. The abnormal growth of bones causes an interference with the movement of the bones, making it hard for sound waves to travel inside the ears.

6. Usher's Syndrome

Usher’s syndrome is a disease that can be inherited and may lead to both hearing and vision loss. It is common in children or newborn babies. And unfortunately, there is no treatment for it currently. In many cases, it is associated with symptoms which involve loss of balance.

7. Mumps

Mumps rarely causes hearing loss. But in some cases, it causes damage to the cochlea thus causing intermittent or permanent deafness if not treated properly.
